An encouraging and thoughtful book for modern-day mums

You can't change the world, but you can prepare her for it.

Your daughter is facing challenges you never dealt with at her age! From skyrocketing anxiety rates to bullying on social media, the Enemy's lies are everywhere. How do you help the girl you love walk in freedom?

Mom's Guide to Lies Girls Believe, the companion book to Lies Girls Believe is your tool to come alongside your daughter in the fight against the lies the world is telling her. Based on in-depth research and focus groups led by Dannah Gresh, author of Secret Keeper Girl and Lies Young Women Believe (Coauthored with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth,) Lies Girls Believe teaches your daughter the Truth she will need to navigate the challenges she is facing. The Mom's Guide provides research, cultural trends, and case studies about the problems tween girls face, but also offers encouragement and biblical insight to empower you to talk with your daughter about God's truth.

"A Moms’ Guide to Lies Girls Believe" by Dannah Gresh is a book to help Mums plant truths in their daughters’ hearts whilst they are young. We can’t make our daughters embrace God’s Word but we can plant seeds of truth in them. The author has researched the material for her book and carried out a survey of over 1,500 girls aged between seven and twelve years of age. The author identified from the survey the twenty most common lies girls believe and has included them all in this section. Such as lies about God, themselves, sin, relationships and the future. Whilst you, as a Mum read your book, your daughter reads her book “Lies Girls Believe” at the same time. Included in each chapter of your book is the whole chapter from your daughter’s book so that you know what your daughter is reading. I thought this was a good and helpful idea. There are tips for having a conversation with your daughter regarding the content and what she is learning. Each chapter includes a ‘Truth Nugget’ (verses from the Bible), a section called ‘Talking with God’ and ‘Talking with your girl’. The aim is having read a chapter you come together to talk through what has been read and you, as her Mum, then help her with the practical side of implementing what she has learned - to reject lies and replace them with truth. “Most of today’s tween girls suffer on what is called a spectrum of angst. It’s not a matter of if they will struggle – with depression, anxiety, fear, loneliness, and anger – but how much.” This book looks at our emotions, how they are affected by our thinking and how our beliefs underpin it all. It is our belief system, the way we think and feel which affect our behaviour. I wish these books had been available when my daughter was in her tween years and I recommend it to any mum who has a young daughter. Being a mum is not easy, we worry about not being good enough, and we lay a tremendous amount of guilt on ourselves. This book is one which encourages mums in their parenting and encourages mums to keep communicating with their daughters. It is a book which is very practical and grounded in scripture.
