This book is in the long line of books by Stormie Omartian reflecting on our prayer life for our families. If you have read her books before it will not be dissimilar in style to those you have already read. She is thorough in the way she looks at every aspect of the adult child’s life and the obstacles that are presented to that child which prevent them from walking with God wholeheartedly. The first chapter is excellent – dealing with forgiveness thoroughly, both for the parent in forgiving the child and the child forgiving the parent and is realistic in the approach to this indicating that not all areas will be possible to discuss openly with the adult child. The book continues initially with considerations of general attitudes for parents to pray into (wisdom, being filled with the Spirit, discernment) and then deals more specifically with situations (relationships, career, the adult child’s children etc) A note of caution, it is aimed at the American market which is all encompassing and extremely intense and full on. Stormie Omartian also has a tendency to use a lot of italics to emphasise her points, but that said she uses Bible passages to back up her thoughts and comments and each chapter ends with a prayer that can be used for the adult child and a page of Bible verses to encourage the parent. For those Christians who have a difficult relationship with their adult children or want to read about a way to support their children now they have flown the nest this is worth considering.
