The gift of prophecy has always invited some degree of opposition and controversy. It is one of the most vivid displays of God's presence and power among his people. Many people struggle with the very concept of the validity of prophecy today. They are troubled by the possibility that God may have direct access to our minds. Greg Haslam argues that such concerns are misplaced. Following St Paul's injunction that we should be 'eager to prophesy', he considers how God speaks, and how we should hear him; how we can test and deliver a prophetic word; and how we can grow in confidence as we learn to discern what the Spirit is saying to the church.

    The Good Book Stall

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say 'I really want to be a Prophet' but this book has to inspire any would be prophets and many who would think twice about voicing this desire. Though not thought of as a major gift essential for today's church nevertheless this book will open minds and hearts to the great need for wise and careful prophets who are close to God and can hear God and speak out truth and direction. I have to confess I had not thought so carefully about the gift of prophesy and the book took me some time to read, not because of any fault but because I needed to digest the importance of what was being said. Though some readers may find some of the theology a bit dogmatic the book is genuinely thoughtful, encouraging and scriptural. The book is very practical in its description of the gift of prophecy, how to develop a gift and how to discern and direct what is being said. The more I read, the more I felt the great need for outstanding prophets in our churches. If you have any slight aspiration to this great ministry read this book.
