Thought provoking and challenging, this easy to read and understand book comes with wise words from the end of John Stott's writing ministry. An excellent place to start, even if you've never read any of Stott's books before, this short, highly readable book challenges you to know Christ and to live out your faith.

In eight distinctive ways, the loved and respected thinker and writer gives his profoundly moving insight into God's purposes through these hand-picked characteristics of Christian discipleship. In his straightforward style he discusses: non-conformity to the world, Christ-likeness, maturity in Jesus Christ, creation-care, simplicity, life balance, God dependence and the Christian perspective on death.

Each is touched on lightly and briefly, but with all the hallmarks of Stott's vintage prose and pithy clarity of thought.

Notes

A disciple is someone who is under the discipline of Christ, someone who is not at liberty to choose his own destiny. John Stott focuses on eight characteristics of Christian discipleship which are commonly neglected yet deserve to be taken seriously today.

John Stott was one of the world's leading and most loved Bible teachers, preachers, writers, pastors and mission-leaders; author of many books including the best-selling "Basic Christianity", Rector Emeritus of All Souls Church, Langham Place, London; President of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, and Founder-President of the Langham Partnership International. He was awarded the C.B.E. in the Queen's 2006 New Year honours.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

A final book from John Stott who, at eighty-eight, is putting down his pen for the last time, and has produced a work that is almost a distillation of all his previous writings. Here he takes as his inspiration the text, Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? (Luke 6:16), and covers eight areas that he sees as fundamental to discipleship and often lacking in the Western church: non-conformity, Christlikeness, maturity, creation-care, simplicity, balance, dependence and death. With a sound Biblical basis and many illustrations from his own experience, this is truly a Master-full swan song and a salutary read for Christians of all vintages.
