Today's key challenge for the church in the West is to reach and raise the next generations – often missing or misunderstood – yet vital to the future of contemporary society and to Christianity.

Drawing on 20 years of fruitful experience, and carefully analysing Britain's present cultural context this book explores how to disciple today's Millennial (Gen Y) generation and their teenage/early adult successors Gen Z. With plenty of positive insights into the opportunities these generations possess, it speaks into how to help build solid foundations of identity and purpose for young adults and assesses some of the biggest challenges to Christian discipleship in today's culture.

It will equip individuals who seek to mentor, parent or lead young adults into discipleship in the everyday and within church, as well as those of Y & Z age who are passionate to understand and disciple your own generation. It concludes with practical guidance and a passionate challenge to established churches who wish to reach these generations.

This is a book about discipling young adults born as generation Z (1996-2014). It clearly describes the worldview and character of this group shows that Jesus Christ has the answer to all the vital questions these young adults raise and worry about. There is a strong emphasis on mentoring and friendship with excellent practical application of how that should work. It fully covers the vexed question of identity that is summed up in the selfie - who am I, how do I want the world to see me, how does the world see me? The problem of loneliness in the midst of high connectedness through technology is addressed, as is the problem of establishing reality in a post truth society where tolerance is intolerant. There is great advice on how to promote wise discernment in decision-making. However, key to all this, there is a real challenge too. Challenge that can be brought to young adults as they encounter Jesus, but a real challenge to the church. It is only as churches embrace generation Z creating a culture that accepts them, believes in them and give them a real place in the church family that we will be able to disciple this and the next generation of the church. If you have any interest in reaching those finishing school and beginning to make their way as adults then this book is a “must read”, born out of 20 years of practical experience.

This is an incredibly helpful book - the insight and context Nick and Marjorie give about life as experienced by Gen. Y and Gen. Z has taught us so much. Nick and Marjorie share from and draw on their own Christian experiences and 25 years of church leadership to provide a book full of advice, wisdom and practical steps for anyone who is either a parent of a Gen. Y or Gen. Z or has the privilege to be mentoring them in a church context (we’re at the stage of life where we find ourselves in both of those roles!) The book has helped us properly recognise the privileged role we have at this stage in life to be available to lead and mentor young adults and is particularly relevant for us right now as we’re working out how best we can support the young adults in our church community group. We are so encouraged by how Nick and Marjorie set out the incredible opportunity we have to mentor and disciple young adults and to do this through building relationships and learning from each other, rather than assuming we have to be the “leaders”. This is a book we will keep referring back to many times - if you have the privilege of of parenting or mentoring Gen. Y's or Gen. Z’s then this is “must-have” read.
