This book describes what I learned and what is taught in a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Discipleship Training School. A Discipleship Training School (DTS) is six months of personally experiencing God and living the adventure of taking His message to the nations. You apply the truth of God to life and are further equipped to fulfill your purpose. You learn to function as a team member. It's an intense, full-time program consisting of two parts - lecture phase and outreach phase. YWAM is especially focused on youth, equipping young people for ministry. The Crossroads DTS, which my wife and I participated in is designed for older and married adults. YWAM can be a lifetime vocation or a short-term missionary and discipleship experience. The program is very helpful for Christian growth and a global Christian perspective.The lecture phase starts out with 12 weeks of focused, intensive discipleship in a missions community. We and our classmates explored a range of topics, guided by experienced local and international missions leaders. Every week we addressed areas related to following Jesus in life and character, personal relationship with God and missions. The purpose of the DTS is to encounter God like never before. This was our time to personally get to know Him more and how He does things from the YWAM perspective. Topics included Evangelism, Father Heart of God, Hearing God, Lordship, Missions, Nature of God, Prayer, Relationships, Repentance, and Submission. Our lecture phase was at the YWAM Perth Base in Perth Australia. www.ywamperth.org.au/discipleship-training-school/ The outreach phase is two or three months of team outreach in a foreign country doing missions work. Our outreach was to Bangkok and Chiang Mai Thailand. In Bangkok, we helped at a center for handicapped orphans and in a slum for one month. In Chiang Mai, we helped at the Home of Joy Orphanage and did evangelism at the Chiang Mai University for one month. Most of our outreach team did another month of outreach in Australia. Cindy and I moved near the YWAM Thailand Base in Bangkok and began our Thai language studies. Then moved to Phuket, Thailand where I pastored Calvary Chapel at the Bridge. We were missionaries with YWAM for six years. This book will be useful as a handbook or supplement to training you can receive at any of the YWAM bases around the globe.
