Often when people are hurt, or their trust and confidence have been shattered, the only way they know to get on with life is to lock themselves into unforgiveness. Other people might feel that forgiveness in some way involves condoning or minimising a wrong, or letting the guilty party off the hook. The most surprising people sometimes display a truly puzzling inability to forgive.

This book will be of help to anyone needing to engage with forgiveness in their own lives, as well as anyone seeking to help others.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This book looks at the subject of forgiveness in considerable detail, including the beneficial effects of forgiveness on mental and even physical well-being, as well as the spiritual aspects, not least Jesus' command to forgive as often as is necessary. The writers look briefly at the approach of other religions as well. Particularly helpful is the chapter which seeks to spell out what forgiveness does, and also does not, entail. The fact that the authors are Roman Catholics should not deter those who see things from a Protestant perspective, who will find a great deal of useful information and valuable insights in this book. Simple exercises are suggested to help the reader get in touch with his inner self, and allow God space to speak. I found the section on healing the wound of sin particularly valuable; when someone is sinned against, it leaves a mental wound. Jim McManus points out that this wound can readily be healed by taking it to Jesus. Applying this in my own life enabled me to grant forgiveness about something that had been troubling me for many months.
