The Exodus from Egypt is an enduring account of a nation born out of slavery, who set off on an epic journey through the forbidding wilderness, and on to the Promised Land that the God of their fathers has sworn to give to them. It is an account of His Sovereign will and plan being worked out through His people the Israelites. Yet it also can be seen as God's plan for our salvation journey today. A plan that is hidden in the story.

The apostle Paul compares our Christian race with the Exodus account. And he tells us that the things which happened to the Israelites are meant to teach us important lessons of faith. They were examples that God Sovereignly ordained to happen, that were specifically written down for our instruction.

This book is all about the start of that journey, and how it relates to the start of our journey of faith today. And it contains crucial details, staging posts in the journey that God has deliberately placed there, in order to help us start well in our Christian walk of faith. Because if we start well, we are much more likely to finish well also. So that we will be like Joshua and Caleb who entered into their inheritance, and not be like the rest whose bodies fell in the wilderness. They left Egypt, but never came into their inheritance in the Promised Land. And the problem for many of them is that they physically left Egypt, but Egypt was still in their hearts. And they longed to return to it, to the land of their slavery. That is why it is so important to actually leave Egypt behind.
