I once met an old time ministry acquaintance who I had not seen for a long time, but with whom I shared a lot of history in common. Naturally, we began by recollecting and amusing ourselves with incidents in our common past before we drifted to update each other with our current personal developments. As our conversation progressed, we found ourselves sailing harmoniously regarding a number of issues concerning commitment to ministry work. Our talk grew warmer until I unwittingly struck a note on the subject of fasting. A sudden chill descended on my colleague, snuffing out the warmth of our conversation and quickly replacing it with a disturbing quiet and coldness on his part. The conversation took an unfamiliar twist and regressed into a monologue. The obvious but uncanny combination of his retreat and palpable resentment quickly led to his mysteriously sharp stomachache, which prompted our unceremonious parting of ways. You probably don't want to encounter a situation like this. I apologize in advance if you happen to be the party under discussion. You may have once acted or inwardly reacted as my colleague at the mention of the word "fasting" or whenever you hear a sermon on this subject. It has become commonplace for people not to seriously regard fasting as a faith discipline so profoundly preeminent. Nevertheless fasting must be of great significance to the life of the believer owing to the universal coverage devoted it in the Holy Scriptures. Fasting is talked about approximately one third as much as prayer is in the Holy Bible. This encounter definitely never left me the same as it set me on a course that has culminated in this book. I hope you will not remain the same either after reading it. I pray that God through the blessed Holy Spirit shall communicate to you at a very personal level. As you study this book, The Lord shall open up your heart to the wealth He has for you in this day and age. I believe once you are through, you will walk your destiny road equipped by quickened faith for a major launch into the realm of Spirit filled living. You will rise to higher heights in your divine calling. You will be met with greater commitment to execute your God-assigned responsibilities. May you move on to achieve what has not yet been achieved in this generation. May the Lord grant you rich fulfillment of His divine dreams that are being laid up in your heart. Just like some have done to other principal truths in the Bible (where they have not been adequately understood), many have held in reserve extremes the subject of fasting, and in effect fallen prey to the enemy whose mission is to falsify and discredit every powerful virtue that helps believers receive and operate in total victory. I therefore reaffirm that this book is not the final authority on this subject; the Bible is the final and only infallible authority to which all works must conform. This book is a testimony of what God has done for me, with me, and others as result of our determined commitment to the discipline of fasting. This book is fundamentally the result of the Lord's specific instructions to me following my completion of a series of protracted periods of fasting. They have resulted in incredible spiritual, financial and other ministerial breakthroughs. I am therefore positive that you too will be blessed as you open your heart to receive what the Lord wants to communicate and impart to you. I anticipate the benefit of both you and those that God will have you minister to and inspire for the remainder of your pilgrimage in this world.
