'I noticed that single words from Colossians 3 began to bounce around in my mind, forming a new understanding of the gospel, and a new awareness of who I am, and who my brothers and sisters in Christ are.'

Memorising a passage and studying it in depth can offer a deeper sense of the meaning of each word. James Bryan Smith has found Colossians 3:1-17 to be a rich resource for understanding what it means to have our lives hidden in Christ.

Each of the thirty short chapters of this book bring out the main truth of just one word or phrase in this rich passage. You'll also find a simple daily practice to take up, reflection questions and a guide for five weeks of group discussion.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Thirty short, but considered, contemplations of no more than two or three pages each that are all based around Colossians 3:1-17. The chapters are based around the individual verses and follow in scriptural order—sometimes one verse gets more than one contemplation. This makes it a book that would be very good for a month long study during a quiet time, especially as each chapter has very good end sections entitled living into the truth, affirmation, prayer, and reflection. It could also be used by a group, as there is at the end of the book a group discussion guide. One of the things I particularly liked about the book—and it's only a small thing but just framed the work for me—is that each chapter has a one word title. Raised; With; All; You; Forgive; Name; etc. And just as this book came about because of focusing on one small passage of scripture, so there is a revelation in thinking on just one word too I found. Sadly , this is another oversized book, but at least with this one comes a very nice larger print that does make it easy on the eyes whilst reading—even if it is unweildly for the hands for those with smaller hands like myself. However, size of book aside, the writing in the book is very good and makes it a good book to use to journey through a 30 day period.
