Mission is a key biblical strategy in all denominations.

We've all heard a sermon on it.

We've all read about the latest missionaries daring adventures.

We've all wondered how we can fit into God's big mission puzzle.

All who want to fit themselves into the puzzle will have to study mission. 'As a Fire by Burning' is a book that brings together current missiological thinking and practical experience.

Intelligently sliced in two half's, this book incorporates both contextual experiences and detailed biblical exploration. In the first slice, we hear first-hand experiences from those people who are waist deep in mission in a scattering of interesting contexts. Then in the second slice, we read Rogar Standing's reflections on the big question - on what biblical/theological basis do we seek to do what we do?

This book not only addresses important question rarely aired in our churches, it also encourages us to move away from the 'one size fits all' missionary approach. With the power to engage with your context, the scriptures, an active prayer life, and theology, the local church will be empowered to discern and shape it's own missional life.

The Revd Dr Roger Standing is the Director of Training at Spurgeon's College in London where his teaching specialism is mission, evangelism, and pioneer ministry.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

A very good comprehensive but easy to read book that collects together contributions from a diverse range of people and churches across a number of differing fields and church styles that highlight the many different mission experiences and ideas in and around local congregation settings and experience. The book also considers what mission is, how it can be practiced, how it has been practiced and why it should be practiced. There are times when jargon is a strong presence, but nevertheless this is appropriately used and fitting for a book that is as much practitioner guide as subject study, and this jargon to be fair is well placed so as to make sense and lead into theological and missiological discussion of some depth. I found it to be a very well written book, that was surprisingly easy to read given the weight of its subject matter and very good! Heartily recommend it.
