One's natural inclinations, in- tellectual prowess, and emotional responses can often be deceptive. This is especially true in the area of this book's subject. Grace to an extreme tolerates sin. Faith to an extreme promotes a religious humanism (Man is a god because he controls God by faith-he simply speaks the word of faith and God must obey.). Works to an extreme creates Pharisaic tendencies (self-righteousness and hypocrisy). The remedy for extremism is to find the biblical balance of grace, faith, and works in daily living. That is the motivation for this book, not to become the authoritative voice regarding how you must live, but to challenge extremes and offer direction in seeking a biblical balance.
