What happens internally when we listen to another human being in need? This is a question that arose from the pastoral experience of a team in a hospice. This book by Bob Whorton offers an 'imaginative' listening to the author's pastoral experience.

Reflective Caring will introduce you to the innovative method of "soul reflection" - a technique aimed at transforming people's lives. "Soul reflection" can be defined as an objective inference of our inner reactions. If we apply this principle, we can become a more fulfilled, wholesome version of ourselves.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This book is concerned with how we listen to another person in need and how we ourselves are affected by the encounter. The main emphasis is indeed on us, exploring our own innermost reactions when we have a dialogue with someone who needs help. There is a close analysis of the many selves that make up each individual being. The author calls it “soul reflection” when we listen to the inner reactions of the different selves within us. When we reflect honestly on our caring work we become more aware, not only of other people’s problems, but also of our own. There is a useful appendix containing some soul exercises and some questions for reflection. Bob Whorton is a hospice chaplain with a wealth of experience in counselling and spiritual direction. This book is an original look at the human self and how understanding ourselves first will make it so much easier to understand others.
