In reflective practice we are asked to consider our own experiences and ask ‘what went well?’, ‘what went badly’ and ‘how might I do better next time?’ Tools for Reflective Ministry contains practical exercises and ideas on how to do this theologically and spiritually, putting Christianity at the core of the discipline.

Topics covered include: using metaphor in reflection; spiritual practices for reflection; reframing the past, imagining the future, understanding the present; using culture in reflection; reflecting without words; reflecting with nature; reflecting together.

Dr Sally Nash is Director of the Midlands Centre for Youth Ministry and has been involved in Christian youth work for twenty-five years, mainly in the support and training of youth workers.

Revd Paul Nash is Senior Chaplin at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and a Tutor at the Midlands Centre for Youth Ministry.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This book is more like a well-ordered toolbox rather than a disparate collection of spanners, drills, hammers and odd things which seem to have arcane purposes. In this toolbox the spanners are stored according to size, the drills have all the bits (and the chuck key) with them, the hammers are not rusty and the odd things come with clear instructions. As a resource for reflecting on ministry it is accessible and comprehensive, complete with a good index and a contents list which remove some of the frustrations I have experienced with other books of the ‘I know it is in here somewhere, but where?’ variety. Anyone new to such reflecting should find it a good guide and be able to discover the kind of reflective pattern which best answers their need at the moment; revisiting the book on a regular basis will enable one to move on if necessary, to combine ideas and styles of reflection. Those used to reflecting will find fresh ideas and ways of using their current tools – and perhaps restocking their toolboxes.
