“Death has its own diary. Sometimes it sends its visitor’s card in advance; at other times it turns up unexpectedly and unannounced. Death’s visits often seem random, meaningless and, in the minds of many, unjust. Invariably, however, those left behind find themselves grappling with a miscellany of emotions and thoughts which have to be worked through.”
In this book Geoff Treasure offers hope, comfort and advice to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, with sensitivity and understanding. Himself a widower, Geoff relates the emotions, questions and challenges common to those who are suffering with grief. Using the biblical story of Lazarus as a reference and his own experiences as examples, Geoff provides practical help and warm encouragement whilst recognising the very personal nature of suffering.

    The Good Book Stall

When I lost my wife just two years ago several friends gave me ‘bereavement books’. The likelihood of anyone who has just lost their loved one even reading one of these during the time immediately following their death, never mind getting consolation from them, is improbable but they are kept by the bereaved for a later time. Just as there is a time, possibly months later, when you go through all the sympathy cards and break your heart at the loving messages so also there is a time for such a book as this. However it is short – just 72 pages of text. Some of the chapters are, I feel, a bit long but the content is sound. Nevertheless as I opened the book at Geoff and Lis’s wedding, before being taken to her funeral 43 years later, I knew immediately that the wording was right. Geoff uses excellent biblical examples and teaching to bring strength, hope, comfort and advice. He chiefly uses the story of Lazarus which I have to say I was a little unsure of but – well, you’ll have to read it to find out. To me this is an excellent book to comfort the bereaved and to help those supporting them to understand.
