As well as regular Sunday and weekday celebration, and the observance of saints' days, many churches and cathedrals also hold eucharists for special occasions or intentions: a focus on healing is very common, for example, and weddings and funerals frequently include a eucharist.This volume provides collects, scripture readings, (Old or New Testament / Psalm / Gospel Acclamation / Gospel) and post communion prayers for a wide range of traditional themes - the Trinity, Holy Spirit, thanksgiving for the Eucharist, the Church and also for many contemporary concerns - for victims of war, famine or prejudice, for the homeless, the unemployed, prisoners, for our national life. It can be used in a variety of contexts:for those churches which want material for an occasional themed eucharist,for churches which do not have a daily eucharist and for whom the Daily Eucharistic Lectionary with its semi-continuous readings doesn't really work for occasional celebrations.

A beautifully bound book with some material that will be very helpful for anyone involved in preparing Eucharistic celebrations within the Anglican church. This book provides well thought out votives—and a very nice introduction that explains what a Votive is and why and how to use them, and in turn the book—with full readings, prayers and collects for a number of occasions. These cover church occasions such as Holy Baptism, Trinity Sunday and other celebrations within the church year, however also included are material for things of a much more global or community minded bent—so social justice, the environment etc. The book then finally also a series of material for those more pastoral situations— homelessness, natural disaster, war and conflict etc. This book therefore provides an incredible range of material that can be used simply and easily as is virtually straight from the book. It is also helpful that each individual celebration section includes at the beginning a short context synopsis of the purpose of that Eucharist, where to find additional appropriate Common Worship texts, and finally what liturgical colours should be used. Almost a must have for any Anglican Minister, ordinand or church resources shelf I would think.
