This is a book to accompany the readings in year B of the Lectionary. It aims to help individuals and groups to understand and use Mark’s Gospel. There are two other books that will follow this one: Journeying with Luke in Year C and Journeying with Matthew in Year A.

This book’s unique slant is that it asks readers to use their imagination ‘to bring the Gospel to life.’ It asks readers to visualize themselves in the scenes that Mark describes in order see Mark’s Gospel in a fresh and exciting way.

Journeying with Mark is a fantastic resource for anyone following lectionary year B.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This doesn’t look like an intimidating book, and it isn’t, even though its authors are all of considerable learning. It appears now to accompany the new Lectionary Year, which will follow the readings in Mark’s Gospel. The approach it adopts is slightly unusual but effective. The opening chapter offers an overview of the gospel’s structure. Each subsequent chapter takes the reader through a milestone of the Church year, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Passion-Holy Week, and Easter, concluding with the understated Ordinary Time. Each chapter offers an appropriate exploration of Mark’s text, a panel giving a poetic discursion called Imagining the Text, a reflection, and finally an offer of engagement through some simple action, through a stimulus for discussion, and a prayer. The result is something inspiring and provocative that has depth even in its conciseness. I recommend the book warmly, confident that the reader will come away a fellow traveller with Mark.
