Many debates amongst scholars and theologians have risen from the subject of Christology. 'Christology: A Guide For The Perplexed' defines the subject and analyses the important debates that surround it. Furthermore, the book examines the influence of Christology and the key events that were crucial to early church and Reformation.

Christology can be defined as the study of the nature and person of Christ. It has sparked debate amongst both New Testament scholars and Theologians. As part of the "Guide for perplexed" series, Alan Spence has written a guide for those curious about the subject of Christology. After defining Christology and examining the basic concepts that surround it, the book moves on from this to discuss various theological debates. Subsequent chapters discuss the Quest for the Historical Jesus as well as the thoughts of major theologians such as Barth, Schleiermacher, NT Wright and Pannenberg. The book closes with a consideration of Christology in today's world and asks where 'contemporary Christology' stands.

"Guides for the Perplexed" are designed to make clearer subjects that readers can find particularly complex and hard to grasp. They provide concise and reader-friendly writing styles that will allow audiences to become more familiar with the subject.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This book is from the excellent 'perplexed' series from Continuum and this one is also very good. These are basically books on key subjects that are aimed at making simple otherwise perplexing subjects – however whilst making them simple they do not dumb them down and this is what makes them so good. They are intelligent, insightful and in depth books that are accessible and this one on Christology is no less so. It is actually a fantastic introductory aid to anyone wanting to get a handle on the concept of Christology and the theology and theologians dealing with it. I seriously think this is an essential book for anyone involved in further theological study from A level and undergraduate level study to the interested bystander.
