Sam has had his setbacks in life, but he wants to try to understand the people who have hurt him so badly.In the process, he discovers the one desire which drives us all; it is the cause of all our mistakes and of our selfishness; it is the sole cause of all the cruelty and discord in the world.

Working alone, and independantly of religion, Sam wants to investigate further: he wants to find the ultimate truth about what we are, why we desire, why we suffer and why we exist.

He is surprised that the answer is hiding in plain sight.

Sam's thought journey transports him from slavery into freedom. Something which starts with forgiveness, eventually ecompasses literally everything, from the furthest reaches of the past to the infinity of possibility.

He believes he has discovered our creator.
