Product Description

Right at the end of his Gospel, John tells us why he wrote it: that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing [we] may have life in his name?

John, therefore, filled his Gospel with carefully selected evidence to encourage our belief in Jesus. In this detailed yet easy-to-read commentary, Andrew Paterson examines the eyewitness evidence John provided concerning Christ's power and authority, showing us that John wanted this evidence to result not merely in intellectual assent to these truths, but rather in 'life' in Christ's name.

Opening up John’s Gospel

If you want a well written book that unpacks John’s Gospel and gives a range of insights, in addition to challenging you with further suggested reading, this book is for you.
Andrew outlines the aim of the Gospel, how and why it differs from the other Gospels. He reminds us of the symbolism that occurs in the Gospel, for example after feeding the 5,000 the 12 baskets of leftovers indicating the 12 tribes of Israel. In addition he draws attention to some weaknesses in Bible translation and offers alternatives that enhance the text.
I found this book an excellent read and one that I will keep on my bookshelf for rereading.
