What I Believe is not a book to be read quickly, but rather one to ponder over. Some of it is couched in philosophical and theological language, but it is not too difficult to understand and well worth any effort involved. Here we are generously given insights into the mind and heart of a profound thinker. A deeply spiritual man, Hans Kung seeks to share with all of us his views of an ideal way of life and of a global ethic. These are both rooted in love, tolerance and respect and, in his own particular case, in a trust in God and in the desire to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Although some of his writing is considered controversial and has been criticised in Vatican circles, he remains a Catholic priest committed to his Church, while at the same time reaching out to people of all other faiths and of none.
