Who is Jesus? Why is he relevant today?

This booklet is a concise, easy to read study of the very real questions people may have about Jesus. Learn about the historical basis for the Christian faith, who Jesus was and what difference it makes if his claims were true or not.

Beautifully illustrated by Charlie Mackesy, Why Jesus? is designed to be given to guests attending Christmas Services, or anyone with questions about Jesus around Christmas time.

This expanded edition – which has replaced the original booklet – includes content from Nicky Gumbel’s Bible in One Year, an ideal companion to reading the Bible.

We used to buy the old version without the Bible in a Year additions in bulk which our members gave away in large numbers. This is too expensive and too large. We have stopped buying in bulk.

I have used Why Jesus for many years because it has been the best short presentation of the Christian faith on offer - but buying this new edition, I found one thing which I am not sure about. This is the inclusion of excerpts from the “One Year Bible” in their entirety, making the booklet off-puttingly thick, particularly for the non-academic enquirer. Society is increasingly less print and more video and audio-orientated, and these excerpts are “too much, too soon” for most new Christians or seekers that I know. They may be ok for attendees to HTB, but even then I recently saw a comment from a well known sports commentator who attends that church, saying he reads his Bible in small doses and cannot cope with more than a few verses at a time. Even within the first half of the booklet, it suggests starting with “a few verses”! So please, HTB, don’t make assumptions about your audience! - and do go back to the previous slimline booklet; thank you! If you want to encourage the excellent habit of daily Bible reading (thanks for doing that), why not put in web addresses for something shorter and less daunting such as Scripture Union, CWR or UCB’s Word for Today? The rest of the booklet, including its presentation of the claims of Jesus, is excellent, but I was surprised to realise only a few days ago - again, when talking to a new Christian - that there’s nothing in it which addresses the important issue of why God allows suffering. Yes, I know we don’t have “pat” answers, but surely a subject which is such a huge obstacle to seekers after God merits a mention? Or maybe a separate booklet? Thank you!
