    The Good Book Stall

This is a reprint of the inspirational and very practical guide to running an Alpha Course. Nicky Gumbel writes in the Preface: 'This book is intended primarily to be a resource for churches who wish to run an Alpha course, although many of the principles of evangelism will have a wider application.' The Biblical principles behind Alpha are explained, as well as the 'how to' along with the reasons behind the structure and ethos of Alpha, and why each component has an important part to play. For example: 'The meal on an Alpha course has a profound significance because it is over the meal that friendships are formed' And it addresses tricky issues such as the Alpha teaching on the work of the Holy Spirit, and how different parts of the worldwide church have managed to go along with this by 'bend\[ing\] a little bit in love'... We believe that could only be by the providence of God'. The chapters are interspersed with stories of people whose lives have been changed by God through an Alpha course. This is much more than a manual, it gets the reader to focus on God working through Alpha. Daytime and workplace Alpha courses are covered, as well as advice on running small courses. The Appendices are particularly useful in addressing practical questions. This book is essential for those new to Alpha, but it is also an invaluable reference and encouragement to those familiar with the course, reminding the reader that 'The excitement of Alpha is seeing people... coming to faith in Christ, being filled with the Holy Spirit, getting excited about Jesus and going out and telling their friends... from seeing people's lives being changed by the power of God.' Margaret Brasier, Beeston, Nottingham. The first edition of this title was published in 1994. Editor
