"Sexual Abuse And Its Implications For Church And Society" is based on empirical research done for the author's doctoral thesis. It was birthed out of her exposure to the many instances of sexual abuse experienced by many women in the society. All the findings support the claim that sexual abuse has far reaching implications and that many victims of sexual abuse continue to suffer in spite of the fact that they are in the church, which should be a place of healing.
The book highlights the culture of silence surrounding this topic, particularly in the church, and traces the existence of this traumatic experience from a historical/scriptural perspective. It examines the impact of this trauma on survivors and seeks to sensitize individuals who associate with these individuals to the realities that exists, with the hope that there will be a deliberate attempt to address this issue and help survivors to live a wholesome life.
It is hoped that the practical approach used in highlighting the magnitude of this problem as well as the recommendations made will motivate church leaders to be proactive in implementing programmes/strategies to help these individuals who suffer in silence.
