Advances in genetic science and medicine over the last few decades raise questions for us all, such as: How far should we intervene in 'natural' processes? How far should we go to alleviate suffering? What constitutes a worthwhile life? What does it mean to be made in the image of God? Exploring these questions and more, this book considers theological, ethical and legal aspects relating to the human genome. The contributors include leading scientists, lawyers, ethicists, philosophers and theologians. This is the official Anglican contribution to the debate on the human genome to be discussed at the General Synod of the Church of England in July 2009.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Like other Church of England publications that seek to address key moral issues of the moment, this is a useful guide. It assumes nothing, and is therefore accessible to the beginner, but the depth of reflection means it will also appeal to a more specialist reader who is hoping to get a handle on the very latest developments in the debate. The book features contributions by Christian ethicists, theologians and scientists. It is not indispensable, but it is definitely helpful. And, in contrast to other documents of its ilk, it is methodologically consistent and informed.
