The iconic story of a Jewish prince turned slave, and his journey of revenge, returns to screens in a thrilling new version of Lew Wallace's 1880 Best Seller. It is a story that both inspired and awed for decades, with thrilling battles, dramatic rivalries, and - of course- that famous chariot race.
Starring Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) as Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish Prince who is betrayed by his adoptive brother, played by Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), who runs away to join the Roman Army, returning 3 years later and announcing the new Roman Governor will be coming to Jerusalem to quash the Zealot rebellions which were occurring. Torn between his homeland, his people, and the unstoppable force of the Romans, Judah Ben-Hur takes responsibility for a failed assassination attempt by Zealot and is forced into slavery - but not before his mother and sister are sent to be crucified.
Ripped from his life, Judah Ben-Hur is kindly offered water by a remarkable carpenter, before he is then taken to a live of slavery and toil. Five years he is a slave, rowing for Rome. That is, until a fearsome sea battle frees him from his chains and into the reigns of Sheik Ilderim (played by none other than Morgan Freeman), who teaches him the fearsome sport of Chariot Racing.
Seeking answers and retribution, Judah Ben-Hur returns to find his erstwhile adoptive brother, confronting him in his old home and bringing consequences upon the Jewish people as a result. Filled with a need for revenge, a Chariot Race is proposed, offering a way for the two brothers to settle, once and for all, their dispute.
In an area where the rule is 'First to finish, last to die', the stakes could not be higher, but will it bring peace Ben-Hur so longs for if he wins?
With cutting edge effects and thrilling pace, this new Ben-Hur brings fresh blood to the century old story, and a remarkable comparison between the draw Roman Empire, and the fervour to resist. It's a story of choosing the righteous path, of finding forgiveness over revenge, and of the effect the a kind action can have on a life.
It's the story or Ben-Hur, and it's a tale of the Christ.
