    Part of an epic series which includes Joseph, Moses, David and Abraham, each featuring well known stars. This film of the life of Jesus, is a graphic retelling of a compilation of gospel stories, faithfully told, but with imaginative interpretation of the known facts. I found the behaviour of the Roman officers and soldiers shown here, make the fact that Jesus lived in a country ruled by a ruthless conqueror very real, and Herod and his queen’s behaviour thoroughly obnoxious – as I’m sure it was. The idea that Mary of Bethany was in love with Jesus was handled sensitively and plausibly, and the scene at the tomb of Lazarus very believable. The truth is that we do not know all the details of these happenings, only the bare outlines, and I find a film like this enhances my understanding without changing my faith. Well worth watching.
