Ideal for fans of historical dramas, and of real-life stories of men and women who followed God completely.

The story of Eric Liddell you never knew…

Wings of Eagles follows the 1924 Olympic Gold-medallist, and his calling to become a Missionary. Travelling to China, Eric Liddell turns to teaching, as well as Mission work, but all around him the conflict between the Chinese and Japanese rages. Soon Eric Liddell finds himself trapped in a P.O.W camp, where his faith is really put to the test.

This is the story of his time spent in that P.O.W.

Starring Joseph Fiennes (Risen), Wings of Eagles is based on true events of Eric Liddell’s life. From racing a Japanese soldier to win medicine for an ill inmate, to sharing hope and God’s word with those around him, Eric Liddell shows how with God we can withstand anything, and that we can always have hope, even in the hardest of circumstances.

A great film for Churches and film clubs alike, Wings of Eagles also has the Dove Faith-Friendly Seal for ages 12+, making it a great family film too.

On Wings of Eagles is the amazing story of 1924 Olympic Gold-medalist Eric Liddell, a Scottish man who felt the call of God to be a missionary and teach in China. But it would not be without cost. After the Olympics, Liddell made the journey back to China to teach, despite the raging war and cruelty of the Japanese soldiers. This film is about endurance and, especially, hope, which is the central theme of the film. Liddell undergoes cruelty at the hands of the soldiers and watches others undergo the same treatment. His great victory at the summer Paris Olympics was quite a contrast to what happened to him during World War 2.

We see Liddell with his wife and daughters early in the film, and while he is away, she delivers a third daughter. He is sorry to leave them to go teach, not realizing the captivity that awaits him and others. He is captured while performing a wedding ceremony when soldiers show up at the church and halt the wedding.

In one scene, Liddell, nearly starved, is forced to race against a Japanese soldier when he falters and falls. Later, in order to secure medicine for a man that is dying, he agrees to race again. He wins this time, but the medicine is withheld from the man anyway. To make things worse, a young boy, who was bringing the medicine while the electrical fence was turned off, is electrocuted when the cruel commander orders it back on, knowing full well the boy is scaling the fence at that very moment.

Joseph Fiennes gives an excellent performance as Liddell. The story, rich in character development, is based on true events. This movie will have the viewer upset at the treatment of the characters and then admiring them for their perseverance. Eric, also known as the Flying Scotsman, is now commemorated in a monument in China featuring these words from Isaiah: "They shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary." The hope that Eric Liddell held onto is what enabled him to deal with incredible suffering. What a message this movie contains! We are pleased to award it our Faith-Friendly Seal for ages 12+

This movie about Eric Liddell's time in China has made an impact on me, he and others went through such cruelty & there are some graphic really upsetting scenes. Am so pleased to have seen Chariots of Fire - several times, and to know that Eric Liddell experienced the mountain top too in his life before his time in China. Wings of Eagles is a good film, but be warned it is upsetting to watch, especially in light of it being based on a true story.

I was shocked at the missed opportunity to share the gospel with such an inspiring story. The movie ended with the reason Eric was such a good man was because he saw the good in everyone. He was a good man because of his faith and commitment to Jesus Christ and that love spurred him to love others. I did not see that in this film. Please do not waste your money or time with this movie. Sad

This is a good film. Eric Liddell is played well and his character comes across well. The story line is strong and all the actors are very good. One thing I would like on ALL films is subtitles.

I am so glad I got to watch this film though initially when I found out Eric’s life did not end happily ever after after the Olympics it was a bit of a downer. Still we are told in this life we will have trouble especially if we stay faithful and on fire for God. . The film is about the lesser known second half of Eric Liddles life. Emotional and challenging. It’s a difficult watch due to the hardship Eric and those with him endured but it is great to see though not all Christians get a fairy story ending God is with us in it all and can use all for the good of those who love his name and to bear witness to his goodness in the darkest of places. V good watch but not for young kids .

An unbalanced account. Concentrated on two events to create tension, Races with camp guard & death of small boy on electric fence.

I realised when I bought this DVD that it was categorised as a 12. However only about 5 minutes into the story a very shocking scene was shown. I didn't wait to see any more.
