This period commences on the Sunday closest to November 30 and extends until December 24, offering a time for prayer, waiting, and hope.
During this sacred season, many observe the tradition of lighting candles on each of the four Sundays in Advent. Three candles are typically purple (or blue), symbolising prayer and loving service to prepare the way for Jesus. The candle for the third Sunday of Advent is rose-colored, representing the joy as the birth of Jesus approaches. On Christmas Eve, a white Christ candle is lit alongside the other four.
