Chasing the Dragon is a missionary biography that centres upon Hong Kong's most dangerous territory: the Walled City. Until it was demolished, the Walled City had forged a reputation as a lawless area where even police felt forbidden to enter. The area had become synonymous with drug dealing, prostitution, murder, blackmail and fear.

In 1966, Jackie Pullinger set sail from Britain with little inclination that she would be 'called' by God to the Walled City. Jackie Pullinger's missionary autobiography tells of how her strong faith encouraged brutal Triad gangsters to convert, prostitutes to quit, and drug addicts to clean up. "Chasing The Dragon" is a testament to selfless commitment and human kindness towards others.

What do the critics say about Chasing The Dragon?

'Truly inspiring ... a wonderful book.' - Nicky Gumbel, Holy Trinity Brompton

'Jackie Pullinger has helped to turn a city around and has saved lives, all because of the compassion that she's received from Jesus. She is clear and straight up in the way that only someone who is actually doing what she says can be.' - Mike Pilavachi, Soul Survivor

'One of the most dramatic Christian autobiographies ever published' - Church of England Newspaper

This is one of the best autobiographies I've read. As a result of reading it the Lord called me to leave my home and go to Hong Kong and serve the Lord with St Stephen's Society. I ended up marrying one of the Chinese brothers and living the next 20 years in Macau. Highly recomment this book.

This is the story of how Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit have changed lives in a place of utter degradation; where drug smuggling, heroin addiction, prostitution and pornography, are run by extortion and fear. Jackie Pullinger has written an introduction and two further chapters to this edition, published to mark the 21st anniversary of this phenomenal bestseller. The original book covered about ten years of her work in the ‘walled city’ of Hong Kong. The new material overviews the next twenty or so years in just two chapters, but gives us some idea of the ongoing work in Jesus’ name, now the ‘walled city’ is no more. Some of those helped are helping others, and the work goes quietly on. I was so glad to read the original book again, now with its extra material. This is a shocking but amazing story of what can be done by trusting in God. Now in Manga edition also. A contemporary classic.
