An insightful and riveting account of James O Fraser who served as a missionary in China.

James Fraser was only twenty-two when he abandoned a promising career and went to China. Living among the people of the Lisu tribe, he felt an immediate affection for them, and for the rest of his life he laboured to bring them to Christ and to Christian maturity.

Though he felt much heartache and disappointment, his prayers for the Lisu were answered as thousands came to Christ and churches began to spring up as the Lisu spread the Gospel among their own people.

Packed with personal letters, insightful anecdotes and riveting stories of missionary life in China, this superb biography written by Fraser's daughter shines with God's constant faithfulness and power over evil.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Originally published in 1982, reprinted and reviewed in 2006, now reprinted again in 2009. This book would also be useful in categories such as Biography, Evangelism and Learning About Faith, it is so much more than the story of evangelism in a distant part of China saturated with fear engendered by Devil worship. James Fraser was an accomplished young man who could have made a success in many professions; instead he chose to give his life to the Lord and in particular to mission in China. Here he ventured into the spectacular and mountainous region bordering Burma and inhabited by the Lisu tribe. Mountain Rain tells of his lonely treks, harsh conditions and increasing awareness that his own and his supporters prayers were of prime importance to the growth of Christianity in the region. So often ahead of his time in his thinking, he insisted that the infant church be self supporting from the very beginning, so that when missionaries were forced to leave the country at the onset of the communist revolution, not only would the Christians stand fast in their faith, they died for it in great numbers. A book to grip your attention from start to finish, teaching you much, on the way.
