Praying for the Younger Generation

The Editor

James Aladiran

Joel 2:28 talks about a mighty outpouring of the Spirit on all Flesh! We are yet to see this prophecy fulfilled in its fullness. Before the second coming of Jesus, I believe we will see the greatest move of God the earth as ever seen. Far surpassing anything we’ve read about in historic moves of the Spirit.

If this is true, then it’s worth examining Joel 2:28 a little closer. The Lord declares that, our sons and daughters will prophecy, old men dream dreams and young men see vision. This means that the fullness of the outpouring of God’s Spirit is realised in the context of cross-generational connection in relationship and ministry. The prophecy has a stronger emphasis on the youth 'sons and daughters… young men' (ESV) but they are not isolated from the older generation: 'old men dream dreams'.

What God starts in one generation He wants to take to another level in the next. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! Isaac stood on the shoulders of Abraham and Jacob stood on the shoulder of Isaac. One of the main problems we face in our Nation is a lack of fathers both natural and spiritual.

It's important to pray for the younger generation because what God has started with older generations He will take to the next level by the younger generation. The younger generation will have opportunity to take the Gospel to places older generations will not. Prayers also need to transition into action. Let's pray for fathers and mothers to rise up in the Church, discipling through relationship the voices God will use to shake a Nation and bring about a spiritual awakening.
